How can objects subsume XML?
OOPSLA 99: XML and Objects Panel Presentation
Overview
XML is good for many things, but it is also used in unsuitable areas.
Object-Oriented approaches are better at many of the uses XML is put toward, and with some augmentation, OO would
be better at (subsume) even more application needs. The result of a complete integration of XML and OO would be
of significant benefit to both the XML and OO development communities
If OO techniques could subsume most of XML:
- XML would have a more natural, expressive, and powerful conceptual base from which to work
- OO methods and tools would be improved to directly incorporate the interesting applications and concepts that XML supports
- There would be a larger shared set of higher quality, more capable, and fully compatible tools and techniques
